Psoriasis And Stress

Psoriasis And Stress - Many of you will surely be intrigued by a disease like psoriasis, stress that has very obvious effect on our body. This disease is a chronic inflammation of the skin that occurs through the appearance of Red patches and thick, greyish scales, the so-called plaques, causing burning and itching. Their extension is extremely variable from subject to subject and appear more frequently on areas such as the soles of the feet, knees, scalp and elbows, though often can also appear at the genitals or nails.

In some cases, their size can be of proportions and seriousness that restrict the subject in carrying out its normal existence, both for the imperfections and the itching and burning resulting therefrom. Contrary to what many of you think, it is not contagious. It was noted that stress affects psoriasis subjects that belong to different age groups but to suffer are mostly adults, and that, in percentage terms, its incidence varies significantly between the female and male.

As we have already mentioned, the location of patches and pustules typical of psoriasis can occur on different areas of the body in a more or less severe here because different types have been identified. As an example, Psoriasis Vulgaris, which is what occurs with greater frequency, begins to manifest itself with the appearance of reddish patches of large dimensions, but going forward you enlarge. Typically, this form affects primarily adults and tends, at some point, to diminish and to regress, then make an appearance again.

The erythrodermic psoriasis, however, turns out to be much more serious, as it causes inflammation and redness that affect the entire body and often force the patient to rely on hospital care. No less severe and incapacitating psoriasis is artropatica, which also has effects on the joints and causes to individuals who are suffering pain and swelling in the feet and hands and difficulty with regards to chewing. Very similar to arthritis, therefore, occurs in 30% of cases.

The best known form of psoriasis is, however, perhaps that of the scalp, which typically differs from other types because the patches remain confined in the area of the head without going to affect the rest of the body. Contrary to what you think the majority of people, it is not at all responsible for hair loss.
Typical of adolescence and, instead, psoriasis guttata, which manifests itself with little size (big as drops, for instance).

CAUSES

Maybe many of you are aware that, in the appearance of psoriasis from stress, several variables come into play: one of these is the genetic predisposition, which often determines a certain familiarity of disorder, namely a higher probability that those who have at least one parent with psoriasis suffer in turn of this pathology. However, factors such as those just listed are not sufficient to explain the emergence of this disease, which mostly produces its effects on particularly stressful events or periods for the subject, in terms of emotional or physical.

Not infrequently, in fact, the appearance of symptoms that herald the onset of this disease or their aggravation takes place during a particularly painful events such as the disappearance of a loved one, as well as, on the other hand, it is not uncommon that record the attenuation of spots or blotches in periods of serenity or happiness, such as occurs in women who are about to become mothers. From the physical point of view, however, finds a psoriasis particularly fertile soil in all those subjects physically weak for many different reasons: surgery, trauma, infections, and other diseases are often the basis of particularly stressful conditions that favor the appearance of psoriasis.

You must not however forget the fact that stress can certainly be seen as the trigger of this disorder, this can worsen in the presence of unhealthy habits, such as alcohol abuse, smoking, a diet balanced and not so typically, due to an unhealthy lifestyle. Alcohol in particular is very harmful for people already affected by psoriasis or genetically predisposed to the disease, given that it has the power to dilate the blood vessels.

CURE

There are several alternatives that you have in the treatment of psoriasis and stress the choice usually depends on a number of variables, such as:

the type of psoriasis;
  • gravity;
  • the proportions assumed by the stains;
  • the effectiveness of initial therapy on the patient.
The solutions are practiced are usually:

  1. medicines (for topical use, i.e. directly to stakeholders);
  2. phototherapy;
  3. systemic therapy.
  4. DRUG THERAPY

Before we get to try other solutions, in most cases you try to disappear the symptoms of psoriasis through ointments, creams and ointments to apply on the affected parts. Among these, while those cortisone based do not determine the total disappearance of the disease but only a decrease of its gravity, those that have a base composition of vitamin D3 or calcipotriolo have stronger effects and can also determine the regression of symptoms.

Other solutions of this kind are produced from substances such as salicylic acid, mineral coal and antralina, while bubble bath and body lotions can only serve to mitigate the plates.

PHOTOTHERAPY

This term designates a type of therapy that uses ultraviolet (UV) light, emitted from the Sun. These, affecting the skin, have the power to destroy the T cells of the skin and in doing so may decrease the severity of the inflammation of the skin and slow down the rate at which new cells are produced, from which depends the formation of scales. You should however be careful to take this type of solution for a limited period of time for not subjecting your skin cancer risk.

SYSTEMIC THERAPY

You'll have to make recourse to systemic therapy instead, which uses drugs to be administered by injection or orally, if your psoriasis seems to be particularly severe and if you haven't had nor improvement with therapy or topical medications.

This involves taking immunosuppressants (e.g. methotrexate and Cyclosporine, Hydroxyurea), but produce very serious side effects like tumors, and are absolutely prohibited to pregnant women, to which it is advisable to make use of contraceptive methods since at least a month before the start of treatment and in the three years following that date.

The adoption of a healthy lifestyle, through good nutrition and elimination of bad habits like smoking and alcohol, then, can help your body to fight better the appearance of the disease.
